AS FAR AS MY FEET WILL CARRY ME, novel by Josef Martin Bauer,
Luebbe, 1955
Known as one of the most successful European adventure-dramas,
this novel was translated into 15 languages with more than 30
million copies sold worldwide and has up today been selling on
the German market with 90,000 copies annually. An early film-adaption
was produced in 1959 as one of the first and most successful German
TV-mini-series.
Apart from being a story of extraordinary adventure, awe-inspiring
in its bare facts, this book is full of information about the
remotest parts of the Soviet Union. Forell is himself no writer,
and was at first too deeply scarred both mentally and physically
to attempt a connected narrative. Herr Bauer has drawn his story
from him, identified himself with it to a remarkable degree and
has told it without false heroics, making it into a profoundly
impressive book.

SYNOPSIS AS FAR AS MY FEET WILL CARRY ME
Never, ever, underestimate the sheer power of the human spirit
and the force of will when it is inspired by love. That`s the
message of AS FAR AS MY FEET WILL CARRY ME.
Based on Josef Martin Bauer`s novel, this true story is the incredible
journey undertaken by German soldier Clemens Forell in his dramatic
escape from a Siberian labour camp.
Set against a backdrop of desolate and inhospitable landscape,
beset by danger (from both animals and humans), constantly battling
the worst nature can throw at him, Forell makes his way, step
by step, kilometre by kilometre, towards Persia and the longed-for
freedom.
Three years it takes him. Sometimes riding on trains, sometimes
by boat, mostly on foot, he covers more than 14,000 kilometres,
knowing that every step brings him closer to his goal but never
knowing if his next step will also be his last.
In December, 1952, eight years after he left his family and was
sent to fight on the Russian front in a war that was already lost,
Forell was finally reunited with his wife and children.
AS FAR AS MY FEET WILL CARRY ME is the second feature from
Cascadeur Filmproduktion, the partnership between producer
Jimmy C. Gerum and the film`s director and co-author Hardy Martins.
Hardy Martins also directed his first film, Cascadeur - The
Amber Chamber (1998) www.cascadeur.de (about the search for
an ancient Russian treasure looted by the Nazis).
Jimmy C. Gerum`s previous credits as line producer include
the comedy It`s A Jungle Out There (Hans-Christian Schmid,
1995) and Goetz George`s rivettingly chilling portrait of a serial
killer, Der Totmacher (Romuald Karmakar, 1995).
Hardy Martins, born in 1963 in Baisingen/Baden-Württemberg,
trained for two years at the International Stunt Association in
Los Angeles and was also taught by Jean Claude Zeferini in Paris
for a year. He has worked as a stuntman and stunt coordinator
on such productions as Die Katze (1986), Der Sommer des Falken
(1987), Dr. M (1990), Manta - Der Film (1990), Go Trabbi Go (1991),
In weiter Ferne, so nah! (1992) and Die Sieger (1993). In 1996,
he founded Cascadeur Filmproduktion and in 1997, took on the role
of producer, director and lead actor for the film Cascadeur
- The Amber Chamber (1998).
The film is executive producer Bastian Clevé`s
first German production sincereturning from the US in 1991. With
a list of credits as long as your arm, his books are now film-school
standard texts and he is a Professor at theFilmakademie in Baden-Württemberg.
Co-producer Roland Pellegrino is chairman of CP Medien
AG, one of Germany`s most active and successful media funds, with
such international hits as the Mike Myers comedy, Austin Powers,
the beauty-pageant satire, Drop Dead Gorgeous and Jean
Jacques Annaud`s Enemy At The Gates. AS FAR AS MY FEET WILL
CARRY ME is their first all-German production.
